A Message from Cooper's Family
Candidly, this year has a few of us a little concerned. Last years’ outpouring of love and support was unexpectedly overwhelming to the point where we are wondering if as many people will “care/come” again this year. We hope so and are planning an even bigger and better Cooper’s Run 2011 and hope that the last Saturday in July is always on your calendars. We won’t bore you with the details, but do want to throw out at least some of the highlights since last year:
- Cooper’s Run 2010 raised over $25,000.
- We have formed Cooper’s Foundation, Inc., for which we hope to secure “charitable status” under IRS laws.
- Coop has helped three separate children attend Learning Dynamics. We’ve have already identified two more for next year’s enrollment and hope to identify several more. These scholarships are carefully provided to those whose family situations would not otherwise allow them to attend Learning Dynamics.
- Cooper’s Foundation, Inc. contributed to a fund to help purchase a new car for a local family after the accidental driveway-death of their daughter.
- We are working with the City of Orem to unveil what may be (but does not have to be) called an annual “Cooper’s Award” whereby our aim is to: a) help educate and remind EMS Responders that behind every trauma in which they are professionally involved, there are people, family, emotions and memories into which their actions and attitudes will become inextricably woven; and b) each year reward a nominated (nominated by anyone) and then committee selected EMS responder who during the prior year exhibited awareness that his/her public role can be carried out with love, respect, compassion and reverence—as was our experience with Coop!
This year we look forward to the same type of family-fun-affair as last year where both serious and “are you kidding” runners will feel at home. We’ll have more games, more entertainment, more food, more water (See, we remembered!) more activities, more bonding, more love, more community involvement . . . .and hopefully more people/families!
Orem City is sending out its police and fire and other equipment, just like last year. The helicopter is scheduled again! The dunk-tank, the music! We’ll have better race equipment and more accessible race-times (yeck!). If all goes as planned, we will award this years very first “Cooper’s Award” to an Orem cop, fireman, dispatcher or other EMS responder. And lots lots more!
Come and play and bond and enjoy . . . and remember! Coop’s free Otter Pops are just the beginning!
With love,
Quinn & Jana Lynn and family
